The Hawai'i Graduation Initiative focuses on access, affordability and student success, as well as strengthening the pipeline of education in Hawai'i from early childhood through college. Below is a list of national and statewide initiatives that help the University meet its graduation goals.

American Diploma Project A national initiative of which Hawai'i is a participant with the Hawai'i State Department of Education and the University of Hawai'i, dedicated to making sure that every high school graduate is prepared for college or careers.

Achieving the Dream
The UH community colleges, along with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Kamehameha Schools, are part of this national initiative to help more community college students succeed. The initiative is particularly concerned about student groups that have faced the most significant barriers to success, including low-income students and Native Hawaiians.
Complete College America A national effort to significantly increase the number of Americans with a college degree or credential.
Access to Success UH System is one of 24 public higher education systems working with National Association of System Heads and The Education Trust to cut the college-going and graduation gaps for low-income and minority students in half by 2015.
Running Start A statewide program that provides high school juniors and senior, who are academically qualified, to enroll in college classes as part of their high school course work throughout the UH System.
Hawai'i P-20 Partnerships for Education A statewide partnership led by the Good Beginning Alliance, the Hawai'i State Department of Education and the University of Hawai'i System that is working to strengthen the education pipeline from early childhood through higher education.
Gear Up A federal program whose mission is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
Step Up A statewide campaign that promotes college and career readiness for Hawai'i high school students, encouraging them to earn the more rigorous Hawai'i State Board of Education (BOE) Step Up Diploma.
Race to the Top A U.S. Department of Education competitive grant program, called "Race to the Top," in which Hawai'i was awarded $75 million to implement its multi-year plan to improve student outcomes.
American Graduation Initiative A landmark proposal by President Barrack Obama to provide new federal support for community colleges in the effort to build a stronger foundation to keep the U.S. globally competitive.
