The Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges is keenly aware of the role it has in building awareness for and support of green initiatives on and off campuses. In light of the state's goal to meet 70% of Hawai'i's energy needs from renewable energy by 2030, we recognize the importance of an integrated approach to sustainability and support campuses' green initiatives through several operational areas:

  • Academic support to integrate "green" awareness into the classroom curriculum.
  • Administrative support to encourage recycling efforts and energy conservation.
  • Repair and Maintenance support for the integration of new technologies for energy conservation.
  • Facilities and Planning support for the integration of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines in all building projects.

Through sustainability projects and by developing educational programs to train a new "green" workforce, UHCC is committed to growing and supporting a community of leaders, students, faculty and businesses focused on making a positive environmental, social, and economic impact through the power of sustainability.
