Who should use it?
Anyone preparing for college, planning a career change or interested in learning more about:
- Their interests, skills, and abilities.
- Type of jobs and/or careers available in today’s marketplace.
- The required education and training for particular jobs/careers.
- Salaries and industry outlook on job openings.
Many students are eager to find an answer to the question "What can I do with a major in ______?", they are asking the wrong question! A major is an area of scholarship and a requirement for graduation. Liberal Arts majors, are not designed to prepare you for any one particular career. To qualify for most entry-level positions, many employers only specify a college degree.
Your challenge while searching for your dream career is to creatively analyse your interests, skills, and abilities and find a way to work with it to achieve your goals. Rather than asking "What can I do with a major in _____," you should ask "Are the courses I'm taking going to help me get to where I want to go? Are the courses relevant to my intended field of work? Will I learn skills that I can translate into a work environment? Do I enjoy what I am studying?"
Career Connections was developed
to help you find those answers.
