Campus life at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges
Student Government
Each community college has its own student government dedicated to social and organizational activities of the student body.
Activities and Events
Although each campus offers different intramural sports, all community college students are eligible to participate.
The Arts are alive at the community colleges. From outdoor sculptures to indoor art galleries, from dinosaur museums and a slab of the Berlin Wall, you’ll find it at the community colleges.
Student Housing Options
As commuter campuses, only some community colleges offer on-campus student housing, such as Maui Community College and Hawai’i Community College. Maui Community College has two housing facilities, the Hale Haumana and the recently completed Kulanaa’o (call 808-984-3500 for more info).
Hawai’i Community College shares its Hilo on-campus housing with the University of Hawai’i at Hilo (call 808-974-7522 for more info).
Between Classes
Life as a student can sometimes be hectic, so the last thing you want to worry about is finding a place to eat, study and relax between classes. One of the best-kept secrets in Hawai’i’s culinary landscape is the fine dining at the various community college campuses. Each campus also offers multiple options for studying and relaxing.
Clubs
Students with special interests may participate in campus activities through membership in the many clubs and organizations, which are active during the academic year. Cultural, religious, academic, educational and recreational clubs abound at the community colleges.
Student Jobs
All the community colleges offer on- or off-campus part-time jobs while taking classes. For on-campus jobs, students must be registered for at least 6 credits and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
