Student Success Pathway Initiative

The Student Success Pathway Initiative evolved from the work started in 2014 by the Student Success Council. Composed of leaders across the UHCC system, including administrators, faculty and staff, the Student Success Council focused its efforts on coordinating, aligning and scaling up common action plans for student success. The Council played a critical role in policy development and implementation of the various student success initiatives outlined here and in the UHCC Strategic Plan.

In the Spring of 2016, the Student Success Council was able to expand its efforts with a Student Success Center grant from Jobs for the Future (JFF) with support from The Kresge Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Council's mission was to organize the seven community colleges around a unified agenda to maximize and scale efforts for student success. Initiatives include:

UHCC Student Success Pathway, a framework in which to organize common actions around the difference phases of a student's college experience, guiding them from their point of entry to graduation, transfer or career.

Co-requisite Math and English Pathway that reduces or eliminates the time spent in developmental classes.

STAR GPS, an online degree audit platform that helps student register for the courses in the optimal academic pathway to their major. See the STAR Guided Pathway System (GPS) video that explains it all.

Exploratory Majors, designed to disaggregate our Liberal Arts students. This is specifically for students who are unclear on what they want to do, but have some idea of the general area of study. Exploratory majors will have a clear academic pathway to either transfer to a specific baccalaureate degree program or career. Students are counseled into a specific major or concentration.
