Meeting Objectives
- Kick off planning for systemwide campaign for Fall 2018 enrollment of returning adults
- Learn about proven and promising practices with returning adults from other higher education counterparts
- Learn from hospitality industry about designing and executing world class guest experiences, and
- Learn process to (re-)design student experience for returning adults with hand-on design thinking workshop.

Kahulu De Santos
Cultural Advisor
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Kahulu has been a Cast Member and Cultural Advisor at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa since 2011. A native of Kailua, O‘ahu, De Santos serves as the primary advisor on all cultural matters, providing guidance and support to operations, marketing, merchandise and public relations as well as guiding the development of cultural activities and programs to reflect an intimate and true Hawaiian experience for Guests.
Mrs. De Santos graduated as a kumu hula from Māpuana de Silva and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hawaiian Studies with an emphasis in Hawaiian language from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Dwayne deSerres
Food & Beverage Area Manager
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Dwayne deSerres is the Area Manager for the Poolside Dining and quick service restaurants at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa. He started in August of 2013 as a Poolside Server and worked his way up to Front of House Manager in our signature ‘AMA’AMA restaurant and eventually area manager of the poolside complex in 2016. Prior to joining the Walt Disney Company, Dwayne worked his way up from a head waitperson and bartender to a F&B Director at a Country Club in North Carolina. After he moved to Hawaii, he transitioned into the retail industry before realizing his true passion is food and beverage.
Dwayne earned a liberal arts degree from Leeward Community College and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. While he was a student, he worked on campus at the UH State Telehealth Access Network as an operator.
Lianne Maeda
Recruitment Manager
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Lianne Maeda is the Recruitment Manager at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa and leads all recruitment efforts at the resort. She
oversees the sourcing and qualifying of candidates with key leaders to ensure the attraction and recruitment of best in class
talent. She joined Aulani’s pre-opening team in 2010 as the first person on the HR team.
Prior to joining The Walt Disney Company, Lianne was an executive search consultant at Inkinen and Associates, a premiere executive search firm in Honolulu. A lifelong Hawai‛i resident, her career includes over 10 years with Hawai‛i Pacific University as Director of Career and International Student Services driving initiatives for the university in the areas of recruitment, experiential learning, marketing,
retention, and assessment. She was also an instructor in the Communication department during her tenure at HPU. Before that, she served seven years with the State of Hawai`i’s Department of Labor & Industrial Relations managing their school-to-work transition program
and HR operations.
Lianne earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Hawai‛i at Mānoa and a MS in Counseling Psychology from California State University in Fullerton.
Jim Pham
Training Manager
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Jim Pham is the Training Manager at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. In this role, Jim is responsible for overseeing all training and
development responsibilities at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, including leadership development, new Cast Member onboarding,
operations training, and the facilitation of various courses as part of the learning strategy. In addition, Jim serves as a strategic partner to leadership by ensuring that appropriate and effective learning strategies are developed to support the business objectives.
Jim most recently supported Disney University as a Learning & Development Manager at Walt Disney World Resort. He worked on several large shipboard initiatives for Disney Cruise Line and supported the Learning & Development implementation for Disney Vacation Club and
Adventures by Disney. In previous roles, Jim worked shipboard with Disney Cruise Line as a Training Officer and Service Excellence Trainer for Hotel Operations where he coordinated new Crew orientation, managed succession plan program and supported all departmental training
programs. In addition to his experience with Disney Cruise Line, Jim has extensive experience with Walt Disney World Resort in College Program recruitment, entertainment, labor operations, and park operations dating back to 1998.
Jim is a graduate of Portland State University in Portland, OR where he was born and raised. He is fluent in Vietnamese and enjoys health & fitness.
