Native Hawaiian Student Success Initiatives

Leeward CC graduates

UHCC embraces its responsibilities to the indigenous people of Hawai'i by ensuring that Native Hawaiians not only have access to higher education but also have every opportunity to achieve success. A significant component of our efforts to support Native Hawaiian student success is addressed through Achieving the Dream , a national effort to improve student success in community colleges, and through Title III grants, a Federal Higher Education Act to increase retention and persistence rates of Native Hawaiian students. With multi-year million dollar grants in hand, community colleges are able to supplement existing services and programs to better serve Native Hawaiian students< and in some cases, create new programs that will increase retention, persistence and graduation rates.
