Art
If you’re planning on a career in the art world, then the Academic Subject Certificate in Art is designed to provide you with pre-professional training for students planning careers in the fine arts. It supports students whose goals are to: 1) transfer to a four-year institution and earn a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (BFA) degree and/or, 2) work as a creative artist in portraiture and gallery exhibitions and/or, 3) enter a career in commercial art.

Communication Arts
The Communication Arts program embraces three areas of study, which are all interrelated: design (visual solutions), print (production skills for print media) and multimedia (online publishing). All focus on meeting the ever-changing needs of business and industry. The program prepares you for entry-level employment in graphic design, advertising design, desktop publishing, electronic imaging, online publishing, digital photography, and all aspects of the publishing and printing industries.

Computer Aided Technology
This program is designed to develop the interdisciplinary skills necessary for the production of multimedia. The Digital Media certificate is not intended to train individuals for specific jobs, but is required for those working in such fields as education, advertising, computer science, graphic arts, television, music or any occupation that requires the development of materials of a digital media nature.

Creative Media
If you’re planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in animation and computer games or interactive media, then this Academic Subject Certificate program will prepare you with art and design training needed to explore and express ideas using the leading-edge technology and interactive scripting. The Creative Media certificate program focuses on 3D visual art production for the film, broadcast and computer game development industries.

Desktop Publishing
A desktop publisher uses computer software to format text, photographs, charts and other visual graphics to produce publication-ready materials in the graphic design, advertising and publication industries. The Desktop Publishing program provides you with practical experience in the application of common desktop publishing software packages; practical experience in typography and layout skills; and an overview of the printing industry.

With the advent of computer graphics, this Academic Subject Certificate program combines art with new digital technology, such as Digital Art, Digital Drawing and Digital Imaging to prepare you for work in the digital art industry or for further academic study.

Digital Media
With the growth of multimedia as a tool of both education and industry, the need for skilled design professionals in this field has risen dramatically. The Digital Media Arts program will prepare you for professional work, both in the field of multimedia design and the converging industries that require advanced skills in digital media. Leeward CC’s program offers an Associate in Science degree providing students with integrated digital media training that incorporates art theory, web design and development, computer graphics, non-linear digital video editing, streaming media, web animation, motion graphics, media authoring, and  two- and three-dimensional animation. Leeward CC offers three tracks: Digital Video, Internet Publishing, and Motion Graphics. Hawai‘i CC’s program, Digital Media Arts, offers a Certificate of Completion.

Fashion Technology
The Fashion Technology program provides you with comprehensive training in apparel production and fashion designing required by entrepreneurs and businesses in the fashion industry. The program develops technical skills required for job entry, retraining for the garment industry, and upgrading of sewing and patternmaking skills for those already employed in the field. Laboratory activities promote the development of skills in designing, pattern drafting, and construction of basic and advanced apparel.

Music
If you’re planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music at a four-year university, then the Academic Subject Certificate in Music program will help you develop your skills and talent in music while you earn an Associate in Arts degree and/or pursue a professional career in music. This certificate program provides you with a strong foundation in music theory, performance, and the music business as you begin your career pathway.

New Media Arts
New Media Arts prepares you for careers in the expanding field of digital media. Courses provide students with hands-on experience in the collaborative process of multimedia design with specializations in animation, information architecture and interface design. Television Production
If you would like to work in the field of television and video production, this program will help fulfill your goals. While prior knowledge of television production is not necessary, you will be required to commit substantive time to this demanding and rigorous program. Camera operation, lighting, audio/video engineering, editing, television graphics, direction/studio production, and script writing are just some of the skills that will prepare you for a career in local and national television broadcasting, video production, HDTV movie production, and many other related industries.

Video Web Casting
This program prepares students with the basics of Video Web Casting, including a range of responsibilities from storyboard to production and post-production, non-linear editing skills.  Emphasis is placed upon meeting the real world challenges of video production.

Web Page Design
This program prepares students for a variety of careers in the world of Web design, development and management.  It is a truly comprehensive certificate that starts students out with the basics of digital media to form a digital literacy core.  Students will build a strong foundation in digital art, visual and information design, animation, Web production and management.

Writing
Writing is vital for academic success and work performance. This Academic Subject Certificate program will improve your writing skills and give you confidence in your ability to communicate effectively.  Creative and business tracks are offered. If planned properly, this certificate may be completed within the total credits required for an Associate in Arts degree.
