Accounting
In the world of business and commerce, there is a continuing demand for accountants and bookkeepers. The Accounting program is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of a combination of accounting theory, information technology, and general business. Successful graduates can be employed as tax preparers, inventory systems managers, accounts payable managers, and payroll administrators.

Business
The Business, Business Careers or Business Administration programs offered at various community colleges provide education, training and skills upgrading in the field of business and prepares you for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program. (See an academic advisor for special course requirements.) The program is designed to prepare you for employment in a variety of occupations from sales and marketing to supervision and business management.

Business Technology
The Business Technology program is designed to prepare you for a wide range of jobs in office settings in business, government and other related industries. As a student, you will learn office and computer skills, enhance your communication skills, obtain vital certifications and develop customer service excellence. A certificate in Business Technology will prepare you for entry-level positions, such as receptionist, general office clerk, and file clerk or clerk typist. An Associate’s degree will prepare you for a more advanced position or highly specialized focus in a medical setting as a medical office administrator or pharmacy assistant, or in a legal office as an entry-level legal secretary. This program provides for upward career mobility and job promotions.

Entrepreneurship
For those interested in starting their own business, the Entrepreneurship program offers courses that can provide you the confidence and knowledge to start and operate a small business. You will learn how to develop a business plan, market and manage your business, keep records and prepare financial statements.

Hospitality and Tourism
The Hospitality and Tourism program focuses on developing the skills, knowledge, and attitude needed for success in the hospitality industry, one of the fastest growing industries in Hawai‘i. The program prepares students for employment in either small or large hotels, or in food establishments and other sites in the visitor industry. This is a career-laddered program that moves progressively from the 15-credit Certificate of Completion to the 63-credit Associate in Applied Science degree, which requires a completion of an internship or field experience.

Hotel/Restaurant Operations
With the increase in tourism, there is a growing demand for hotel and restaurant employees. The intensive training provided in the Hotel Operations program will help you prepare for employment in hotel or resort front office, concierge, reservations, housekeeping, sales and uniformed service positions. The program also prepares you for transfer to a four-year program, such as the Travel Industry Management program at the University of Hawai‘i at Ma¯noa.

Information and Computer Science
The curriculum leading to an Associate in Science degree in Information and Computer Science is designed to prepare you for employment as a technical assistant to professional and administrative personnel. ICS specialities are: Network Support Specialist, Database Support Specialist, and Web Master. The course credits are transferable to a baccalaureate degree program.

Information Technology
The Information Technology program trains students in the management of storage and the use of client-server environments in the accessing, processing, storing, and networking of information on computer-based business systems. Today’s modern computing environment is a network of interrelated computer systems with connections via a local area network, wide area network, and the Internet. These computer systems provide access to a variety of information to facilitate the operation of a business. Successful graduates can be employed as Web analyst/developer, system administrator, systems and network security analyst, and database administrator.

Legal Secretary
This Certificate of Completion program will provide the requisite knowledge and skills to enable you to work as a legal secretary in Hawai‘i’s legal market. The program does not involve training in traditional secretarial skills, since most students obtain these basic skills from sources other than the Legal Secretary program. The training emphasizes the mastery of computer skills, familiarity with legal office procedures, preparation of legal documents, knowledge of legal theory and procedure, and actual work experience through Cooperative Education in a law office setting.

Marketing
The Marketing program is designed to prepare you for a career in the fields of marketing and retail. Learn the latest in customer relationship management and gain an understanding of the use of sales and merchandise management. Graduates are prepared to find employment in entry level and first-line supervisory and management positions, such as events and promotion planners, merchandise representatives, sales managers, assistant buyers, marketing assistants, and communication specialists. Medical Office Receptionist
Medical Office Receptionist is a short-term, 26-week training program involving credit courses from the health and business education divisions, and noncredit courses. It is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the medical services field. In addition to classroom instruction, hands-on application in a health-care facility is an integral component of this training.

Retail Management
This certificate develops interpersonal communication skills; an understanding of human resource managers roles and duties; and provides a foundation in retail management. The certificate is one of the three required certificates endorsed by the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) for its Retail Management Certificate.
