Community Health Worker
A community health worker is the primary health-care provider to link disadvantaged families with existing health-care resources. In the Community Health Worker program, you will learn to provide basic health screening services, identify needs, provide information, make referrals to appropriate health care providers or agencies, and follow up on referrals. Dental Assisting
The Dental Assisting program prepares you for employment in private dental offices, hospitals, outpatient clinics, state and federal agencies, insurance companies and dental supply houses. Emergency Medical Technician
This program prepares students to provide basic life support to patients in the pre-hospital emergency care setting. Upon successful completion of the program, you will have the skills and competencies to perform in an entry-level position as an emergency medical technician who can recognize, initiate and continue non-invasive treatments for surgical, medical, cardiac and psychiatric emergencies; trauma; and airway and respiratory problems. Home Health Nurse Aid
The Home Health Nurse Aid Certificate of Completion program prepares you to work as a nurse aide under the supervision of a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse in hospitals, extended-care facilities, private nursing agencies, and home health agencies. Massage Therapy
Massage therapists obtain the basic medical history of the client, assess any problems or conditions, and perform appropriate massage techniques based on the current health of the client. This program is a personal health service utilizing soft-tissue manipulations to treat pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

Medical Assisting
This is a career-laddered program that prepares you for employment assisting physicians in private medical offices and clinics, and hospital outpatient clinics. Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement, you may continue this course of study to earn an Associate in Science degree in Medical Assisting. The Associate in Science degree and certificate programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. (Special enrollment requirements for this program. Medical Laboratory Technician
Medical laboratory technicians perform many laboratory procedures, as well as operate and care for laboratory equipment. When certified, the medical laboratory technician will meet the requirements to become licensed to work in the State of Hawai‘i. (Special enrollment requirements for this program. Mobile Intensive Care Technician
A mobile intensive care technician provides advanced life-support services to patients in the pre-hospital emergency care setting. Upon successful completion of this program, you will acquire the skills and competencies to perform advanced life-support procedures, as listed in Board of Medical Examiners rules for Emergency Ambulance Personnel, including the ability to initiate and continue invasive and non-invasive treatments for surgical, medical, cardiac and psychiatric emergencies; trauma; and airway and respiratory problems. Nursing
The nursing career-laddered program provides preparation for students to become a nurse’s aide, an adult residential  care home operator, a practical nurse and registered nurse. (Special enrollment requirements for this program. Please consult with an academic advisor.)

  1. A Certificate of Completion program prepares you to work as a nurse aide under the supervision of a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse in hospitals, extended-care facilities, private nursing agencies, and home health agencies.
  2. Those who receive nurse’s aide certification may also enroll in the Adult Residential Care Home Operator program and become eligible for licensure by the State Department of Health as a Care Home Operator.
  3. Completion of the nurse aide level is recommended for entry into the Practical Nurse program. Practical Nurse training is a Certificate of Achievement program that prepares you for work in hospitals, extended-care facilities, private nursing agencies, home health agencies, clinics and physician offices under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Graduates may take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing - Practical Nursing Examination.
  4. An Associate in Science degree in Nursing prepares you for acute-care nursing in hospitals. Students are eligible to take the licensure exam to be a practical nurse after completing the first year of this program.  They may stop and work as a licensed practical nurse or continue into the second year of the nursing program to become a registered nurse. Graduates are eligible to sit for the State Board of Nursing examination to become registered nurses. After passing the licensure examination, you can find employment in beginning level positions as a registered nurse in hospitals, doctors’ offices or other health-related institutions. Graduates are also eligible for admission to the third year of the Bachelor of Science in nursing program at UH Manoa.

Occupational Therapy Assistant
As an occupational therapy assistant, you will learn to work under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist teaching people of all ages the physical and psycho-social skills needed for everyday living. After completing your Associate in Science degree, you’ll find that many places hire occupational therapy assistants. Among them are hospitals, school systems, nursing homes, mental-health centers and rehabilitation hospitals. (Special enrollment requirements for this program. Pharmacy Technician
As a pharmacy technician, you will assist in the operation of a pharmacy practice under the direction of the pharmacist. After completing the required curriculum for a Certificate of Competence, you will be able to process all types of records and documentations needed to complete a prescription order and be able to list brand and generic names of a minimum of 200 commonly used prescription drugs, their uses, how they work, and side effects, if any; and correlate their actions with the functions of the body systems on which they act.

Phlebotomy
 A phlebotomy assistant works in a clinical setting or lab drawing blood for testing. The Phlebotomy program includes 64 hours of classroom lecture and laboratory exercises, and at least 100 hours of clinical practicum.

Physical Therapist Assistant
The purpose of this program is to prepare you for licensure and employment as a physical therapist assistant. It will arm you with the knowledge and abilities to provide care in the hospital, clinic, home, school or long-term care facility for the rehabilitation of patients who were born with a disability or are disabled as a result of illness or accident. Physical therapist assistants work under the direction and supervision of licensed physical therapists. (Special enrollment requirements for this program. Please consult with an academic advisor.)

Radiologic Technology
A radiologic technician operates the x-ray equipment in clinical settings under the supervision of a radiologist or other physician. The Radiologic Technology program curriculum includes a combination of subject matter and faculty-supervised clinical experiences designed to prepare you for the safe use of x-ray equipment.
