The Agricultural Career program provides instruction for training and skills upgrading in the agriculture field. It may also transfer to a baccalaureate program if you desire to continue your education (see your academic advisor). Projections point to a continued need for trained people in all aspects of the green industry. Hotels and condominiums face increasing demands for personnel to design and maintain aesthetically pleasing landscapes. Golf course and recreational facilities require knowledgeable people to establish and maintain healthy turf grass, and farms and plantations will need informed individuals to implement new and sustainable agricultural techniques.

If you desire entry-level employment in the field of plant landscaping, then you’ll be interested in this program, which offers a Certificate of Completion. With the right skills and competencies learned in this program, you can find work in landscape maintenance, turf grass maintenance, nursery operations and retail plant outlets.

Bio-Resources and Technology
This program prepares you to enter Hawai‘i’s job market in bio-related fields. Typical areas include plant biotechnology, diversified agriculture, conservation biology, aquaculture, marine sciences, environmental science/studies, pharmaceuticals, the food industry, and ecotourism. An Academic Subject Certificate in Bio-Resource Development and Management, and Plant-Bio Technology prepares students for careers in biotechnology and environmental sciences/studies, and qualifies them for transfer to Bachelor of Science degree programs.

Biotechnology is the use of living cells or organisms to produce a product or to improve plants, animals or microorganisms. Applications of biotechnology include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, the diagnosis and prevention of disease, vaccines, forensic and bioremediation. This program is designed to prepare you for employment in the biotechnology industry and research.

Environmental Studies If you believe that the quality of human life is dependent upon the quality of our environment and our ability to sustain humanity, then the Environmental Studies program is the answer. This program takes an interdisciplinary approach to study the human influences on the ecosystems from an historical, cultural, social and scientific perspective. Career possibilities range from soil and water conservation, land use planning, environmental consulting to waste water management, wildlife ecology and remote sensing. With a foundation in environmental studies at the community colleges, you can easily transfer to a four-year university to continue your studies and/or apply the knowledge you’ve gained to a career in law, engineering, risk management energy conservation, alterative energy development, consulting and more.
