Too often, a college degree remains out of reach for Hawai’i’s talented young people. The Hawai’i Promise Scholarship was designed to help community college students throughout the state overcome financial barriers earn an associates degree with little or no debt.

This scholarship is based on need and not on academics, which means it could be the answer for many students to make college even more affordable. Imagine not having to pay anything out of pocket for tuition, fees, books, supplies or transportation to earn an associate's degree.

To be eligible, students must
  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  2. Be a State of Hawai‘i resident or qualify for exempt status that pays in-state tuition.
  3. Be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester at a UH Community College.
  4. Be degree-seeking in a financial aid eligible program.
  5. Must accept all federal and state grants, scholarships, and any other funding sources that do not require repayment
  6. Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Awards are contingent upon funding and amounts are determined by the individual students’ FAFSA information. Recipients are selected based on the following criteria combined with the use of a selecting algorithm.
