Join our panel as we share our reflections on Barbie and the tell-tale signs of emotional abuse built into Ken's character. Take a deeper dive into Barbie World and join us in unpacking how emotional abuse is not always so straightforward, and what to do about it.

This webinar will feature the following speakers:

Kate De Soto

Kate De Soto is a licensed clinical social worker who serves as the mental health provider at Hawai‘i Community College. She has experience doing clinical work with children, survivors, and perpetrators of sexual and relationship violence. When she was 8, her Barbie was a rough and tumble “hand me down” who had custom tattoos and ever changing hairstyles.

Dr. Sara Vogel

Dr. Sara Vogel is a holistic sex educator and the Title IX Coordinator at Hawaiʻi Community College. In her roles, she supports survivors of sexual and relationship violence. When she was 8, her Barbie was a quirky fashion designer in New York City who also loved camping on the weekends.

Syreeta Washington

Syreeta Washington is an educator with a heart for service and a personal commitment to fostering positive change. A dynamic speaker, she has lent her expertise to a variety of topics, including mental health and LGBTQ+. She is lauded for her engaging presentations that challenge societal norms and inspire growth. When she was 8, her Barbie was a Black entrepreneur who owned a McDonald's and designed her own clothes.
