Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship?
As long as you meet the criteria, you are eligible to apply for the scholarship. We have about 150 scholarships
to award. Priority will be given to students who apply early for BOTH the scholarship and to a UH Community College, students
pursuing their first degree, and full-time employment affected by COVID-19.
I’ve already applied and registered for courses for Spring 2021, am I still eligible?
As long as you meet the criteria, you are eligible, even if you’re already accepted and registered for classes.
I’m going to UH Mānoa, UH West O‘ahu, or UH Hilo and taking a community college course, am I still eligible?
No. Your "home campus" must be one of the UH Community Colleges.
Will you contact my supervisor?
We may contact your supervisor to verify your employment status for eligibility for this scholarship.
How do I apply for the scholarship? What happens after I apply?
You can submit your application at
here. Once you submit your application,
we will email you within a week at the email address that you provided on your scholarship application.
How do I apply for a UH Community College? What happens after I apply?
You can apply to any UH Community College campus at
apply.hawaii.edu. You will receive an email
communication once a decision has been made. Once you are admitted to a campus, you will need to create your UH username. From then, all communication may be
through your UH email. You will receive email communication on your next steps to enroll in the college. You may need to complete New Student Orientation and/or
meet with a counselor prior to registering for classes. Your counselor will assist you in selecting the course. All of our courses can be found on the
class availability website (arranged by campus).
Are there any fees that I need to pay?
There is no fee to submit an application for the scholarship. Hawai'i residents do not need to pay an application fee for a UH Community
College campus. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees up to $400.
What courses do you offer? Are the courses online?
All of our courses can be found on the
class availability website (arranged by campus).
Due to COVID-19, most courses are online. Online courses are delivered in two different ways:
- Asynchronous/Independent learning: There are no specified dates and times for logging in. You login at your own time and submit assignments by the due dates).
- Synchronous/Real-time interaction: Login to an online platform, like Zoom, on specific day(s) and time(s) for an online lecture.
Do I need a computer?
We highly advise you to have a laptop or computer to complete any college course.
Can I enroll in more courses?
Yes, you can! You are responsible for any tuition and fees beyond the $400 scholarship. We highly recommend that
you submit an application for financial aid (via
FAFSA). FAFSA requires that you report 2018 taxes. Once
you submit, you can contact your campus financial aid office to explain your special circumstances of your current situation.
Do I need to submit health clearances (TB, MMR, Tdap, Varicella)?
Yes, you will need to submit your health clearances to enroll in courses that are in-person or online courses that have an in-person requirement.

Will this scholarship affect my financial aid, if I already have financial aid through my FAFSA?
It may affect your financial aid award, as scholarships are taken into account. It is best to speak with your campus financial aid office.
I have a grant that will pay for my tuition, can I also receive this scholarship to redeem for cash?
This scholarship is for tuition and fees only. If you are awarded a grant that will pay for all of your tuition and fees, you will not be
eligible to redeem this Kūlia Scholarship. If, however, your grant does not cover all of your tuition and fees, you may use this scholarship to cover the balance, up to $400.
What happens if my tuition is less than $400, will I receive a cash refund?
This scholarship is for tuition and fees only and cannot be redeemed for a cash refund.
What happens if I drop the course?
We understand that sometimes students may need to drop a course. You will not be held financially responsible for the $400 scholarship, nor will you
receive a refund for the scholarship.
I’ve attended UH in the past, am I eligible for this scholarship?
Unfortunately, no, this scholarship is only for students that have never attended a UH campus. You may be eligible for other
