Scholarships and International Programs

Opportunities

The University of Hawai'i Community Colleges offers varied study abroad opportunities for community college students only, from a 9–day study tour in Japan to a 3-year program at a Japanese Senshu-gakko (professional training school). Many of these programs are partially- or fully-funded!

The value of studying abroad is life-changing. In addition to making new friends and lasting memories, studying abroad can help you gain foreign language skills and cross-cultural competence, and demonstrate initiative and adaptability, giving you a career advantage!

Below is a list of current international scholarships and programs opportunities. All eligible UH Community College students are encouraged to apply.

HAKUOH UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR

Learn Japanese culture and language

Spend 9 days in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. Summer program will provide students the opportunity to learn Japanese culture and language, to make new friends, visit historical sites, and experience a visit with a Host family.

HONDA STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

Study anywhere in world (UH or any study abroad/exchange program)!

Scholarship provides funding support to study overseas while incorporating an international educational experience into their academic program of study.

Awards range from $4,000 - $8,000. Additional funds are available to meet program costs, term of study and location. 

 

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

No international tuition while you are away!

Study one semester or one year; pay UHCC full-time 12-credits tuition (no international tuition) while you are away. Eligible for $3,000 for one semester or $6,000 for two semesters. Indicate first & second choice on your application.

MONBUKAGAKUSHO SCHOLARSHIP

April 2024-March 2027

Three years at a selected Senshu-gakko (specialized training school)

The Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology) in Japan offers a unique scholarship opportunity for students who wish to study at a Japanese senshu-gakko (specialized training college) for three years. One year of intensive Japanese language study followed by two years of professional education and training in a chosen field. Tuition, housing and airfare are covered and awardees are provided a monthly stipend.
