FAQ for High School Students
We recommend that you attend an info session to learn more about training options for high school students or contact us at goodjobs@hawaii.edu if you have a question on a specific training. Not all of the trainings offered through Good Jobs Hawai’i may be open for current high school students as some of the trainings may require prerequisites of prior education or work experience, and the programs are designed to lead to immediate employment within 6 months of training completion.
The minimum age to be eligible to participate in the program is 16 years of age. However, each training program may have its own minimum age requirements for industry certifications and employment in a particular sector.
Each training program has its own requirements for eligibility regarding age, prerequisites such as having a high school diploma or GED, or prior work experience. You can click the Course Details button for courses that are open for application to read more about prerequisites. We will also add a flyer for each term schedule on the website that highlights the courses that are good options for current 12th grade high school students and recent graduates.
We welcome opportunities to develop trainings at specific high schools as group cohorts. Please contact us at goodjobs@hawaii.edu for more information.
Some courses that are non-credit trainings may articulate to college credits if you enroll in a degree program at one of the UH Community Colleges. Some courses may be credit programs that do count as college credits. Our staff can advise you on the opportunity to earn college credit for your program of interest.
In-person and hybrid trainings are held at UH Community College campuses throughout the state, at local training sites or online.
No, you will be enrolled as a student at one of the UH Community Colleges and will participate on your own.
No, your tuition, fees and educational material costs (like books and exam fees) will be paid in full. You do not need to pay anything if you withdraw from the program before completing the course requirements, however, you will not be eligible for future funding through this program.
