Welcome to the office of Workforce Development at the University of Hawai`i Community Colleges.  Our office works in collaboration with federal, state and county economic and workforce development agencies in analysis, planning, policy issues and development of innovative training programs that improve Hawai`i’s labor force. Our efforts support the seven campuses of the University of Hawai`i Community Colleges and system-wide University of Hawai`i projects through collaboration with economic and workforce agencies throughout our state. We utilize the most current sources of labor market information and data analytic techniques to help our campuses develop innovative workforce programs that service Hawai`i’s incumbent workforce, future workforce and the state’s dislocated and vulnerable worker populations.  Our office serves as one of many linkages between our campuses and Hawai`i’s business and industry community to accomplish three goals.

First, we are actively engaged in helping to plan Hawai`i’s economic future through our work in labor market analytics. Our office supports economic development initiatives through the Economic Development Alliance of Hawai`i and our four (4) County Economic Development Boards through the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies report and ongoing planning process.

Second, our office works closely with business and industry partners including the Hawai`i Business Roundtable, Chamber of Commerce of Hawai`i and other business and industry groups on immediate, ongoing and new workforce skills trending in Hawai`i’s and abroad, to ensure Hawai`i’s incumbent workforce remains competitive and able to meet the dynamic needs of Hawai`i’s business community.

Third, our office works directly with state and county workforce development agencies including the State of Hawai`i Workforce Development Council which oversees the administration of the U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and workforce solution providers that service Hawai`i’s residents seeking employment. To accomplish this effort, our office works with a variety of solution providers which includes (not limited to) the administrative and branch offices of the State of Hawai`i Workforce Development Division at all counties, individual county workforce boards, the State of Hawai`i Department of Human Services, State Rehabilitation Council, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, TANF and SNAP programs as well as the State of Hawai`i Department of Education Adult Education Programs.
