Academic & Student Affairs

The Academic & Student Affairs division of the Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges coordinates academic and student affairs policies and procedures, provides guidance for academic and student affairs campus leadership, manages the implementation of innovative workforce development programs, ensures consistent practices are employed systemwide, and supports the use of institutional effectiveness with its information technology and data team.

Initiatives

OVERVIEW

OVPCC designs and coordinates initiatives that have a systemwide impact and will lead to improved student success outcomes. Current initiatives include addressing student completion of English and math requirements in the first year using co-requisite teaching models, implementing shorter course terms for students interested in taking coursework that is 5-week or 8-week in length, and providing resources to remove cost as a barrier such as Hawaiʻi Promise. Other recent initiatives include creating system financial aid and admissions offices, and implementing an onboarding and communication plan for all of the community colleges.

OVERVIEW

The Academic Affairs office works with the academic affairs leaders on each campus to develop and maintain policies and processes to ensure a positive and responsive student experience and support student success. The office is also responsible for ensuring statewide access to our academic programs through a variety of instructional delivery modalities.

Institutional Effectiveness

OVERVIEW

The UHCC Office of Institutional Effectiveness promotes student success and continuous improvement for the UHCC system and campuses through institutional research, organizational planning, assessment, and access and analysis of data for evidence-based decision making.

The Student Affairs office works collaboratively with the student affairs leaders on each campus on continuous review and improvement of policies and processes towards advancing student development and success. The office coordinates and guides this group towards reducing barriers for entry, increasing access to college, and providing support to enhance student retention and completion for all students.

Workforce Innovation

OVERVIEW

The Workforce Innovation team at the University of Hawai`i Community Colleges (UHCC) collaborates with federal, state, and county economic and workforce development agencies in analysis, planning, policy issues and development of innovative training programs that improve Hawai`i’s labor force.
