Initiatives

OVPCC designs and coordinates initiatives that have a systemwide impact and will lead to improved student success outcomes. Current initiatives include addressing student completion of English and math requirements in the first year using co-requisite teaching models, implementing shorter course terms for students interested in taking coursework that is 5-week or 8-week in length, and providing resources to remove cost as a barrier such as Hawaiʻi Promise. Other recent initiatives include creating system financial aid and admissions offices, and implementing an onboarding and communication plan for all of the community colleges.
