Michael Unebasami
Associate Vice President for Administrative Affairs
Michael Unebasami is the associate vice president for administrative affairs for the University of Hawaiʻi
Community College System. He is responsible for all business operations and administrative affairs,
including budget and financial management; human resources; planning and facilities management;
emergency operations and campus security; marketing and communications; auxiliary enterprises;
EEO/AA; Title IX compliance; and legal and legislative affairs. Since joining the University of Hawaiʻi in
1968, Unebasami has held various administrative positions. His association with the UH community
colleges began in 1980 as the director of administrative services at the Leeward campus. In 1993, he was
promoted to vice chancellor for administrative affairs in the Chancellorʻs Office for Community Colleges.
He assumed his current title in a reorganization of the UH System.
Since 1983, Unebasmi has actively represented the University of Hawaiʻi at the national level, having
served as a member of the Board of Directors of both the National Association of College and University
Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Western Association of College and University Business Officers
(WACUBO). In 2008, he served as president of WACUBO and continues to actively participate in
programs of both organizations.
In recognition of his many accomplishments both at the University of Hawaiʻi and nationally, Unebasami
was honored as the 2009 State of Hawaiʻi Manager of the Year in recognition of his exceptional
leadership. In addition to this University service, he served as amember of the Hawaiʻi Air National Guard,
retiring in 2005 with 38 years of faithful service to his country.
Unebasami received his BBA in 1968 and MBA in 1970 from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
